U/S looked good. She has 5 follies but 2 are right now measuring at 14 & 14.5. The other 3 are measuring 11, 11.5 & 12. So, most likely only 2 will probably be the right size by insem but of course there is a chance of all 5 being ready, especially because we are adding injectables this cycle and if that was the case we would need to make the decision to insem or not to insem if there are 5 follicles. My RE would not want her to carry 5 and K does not want to be "that" mom.
Has anyone been faced with this decision? Any advise or experiences to share?
We go back for another u/s Thursday morning. We'll know better then if we'll have deal with that situation or not.

I just did my first round of injectables with my most recent cycle. I was started earlier, on day 3. I know everyone will respond differently, but I kinda hit a plateau with the injectables. The smaller ones just didn't grow very much during the days leading up to the insem. In the end, I only had about 2 or 3 follicles that were mature enough to be worth anything. And my clinic says that they like to get 3-5 follicles with the injectables, so you might be right on track. Even if you do end up with 5 mature follies, the possibility of having ALL of them get fertilized and ALL of them implant is really slim.
ReplyDeleteHere is my experience with injectibles. This cycle where I got my BFP, I had 2 lead follicles and like 8-9 more that were smaller. I started Follistim on CD3 and my body both cycles produced a crazy number of follicles. The first cycle was cancelled due to the large number of mature follies but the second was a go (and the ONE) with 2 mature. Listen to your doc and I think the chances are good that only one or two would be ready to be fertilized.
ReplyDelete2 or 5 or anywhere in between sounds great. I had 5 follies on my first cycle of clomid. There was a little discussion about that being a lot, but the did the insems anyway. Even with the trigger shot, the chance that they will all pop out at the same time, fertilize and implant is extremely slim. Can't wait to hear about the Thursday u/s. Or for our Thursday lunch!
ReplyDeleteI have zero advice but I wanted to send some positive vibes your way! I personally would go ahead with the insem but I'm easily confused when it comes to this stuff. :)
ReplyDeleteI had five follicles on my Clomid (not injectibles) cycle and triggered without a doubt and ended up BFP.
ReplyDeleteI would do it! The chance of all five taking is soooo rare (especially with eggs of the 'mature' age).
Sounds like a great cycle to me. Go for it!
i think the chances of all five being mature are rare. if they did all ripen up though, i would be cautious about proceeding, my doc was much more worried about multiples with injectibles than with either clomid or ivf. here's hoping you dont have to cross that bridge!
ReplyDeleteI have never had this issue, but I think the advice from the PPs is sound. Just wanted to say lots of luck with the triggering and insem. it sounds really promising!
ReplyDeleteYeah!!!
I'm here with no advice, but sending lots of luck to you both for tomorrow's u/s!
